Interviewing Olli Seppänen – “A big change is on its way, time to prepare for it!”
Olli Seppänen, Professor, Operations Management in Construction at Aalto University
PMI Conference 2017: How do you see ‘Change’ in your business environment; is there any “change in the change” happening? (Like pace, amplitude, risk, etc)
Olli Seppänen: Technology is developing so that it will soon be possible to track construction project status in real time – actual work in place, actual resources used, the location of all equipment and materials. This needs to result in a big revolution of project management in construction industry.
What has been the biggest personal ‘change’ or ‘change project’ in your career?
Research project to develop real time tracking tools and starting to think about its implications to project and production management.
What is your motivation to be a speaker at the PMI Finland Conference?
I think project management needs to be completely rethought in the era of digitalization. Although work is still being done in projects, more emphasis is required on production management based on real-time information
What key message would you like to address to the attendees of the PMI Finland Conference?
A big change is on its way, time to prepare for it!
