PMI Finland Chapter over the last 10 years
Over these last 10 years, PMI Finland Chapter has grown and developed. Today, with more than 400 members, we are proud to be an increasingly recognized place where members can enhance their project management and leadership skills, as well as network with other project management professionals.
We have hosted a number of events such as the BRTs (Breakfast Round Tables), which are regular meetings taking place once a month in Helsinki and occasionally also in other locations. A speaker presents a topic related to project management (risk management, quality management, customer survey, estimates, etc.) and raises a discussion about it. Usually around 30 to 40 people attend BRTs, including a couple of students (partnership with the youth-run organization AIESEC). You can find information about the next BRT here. We are currently active in Helsinki and Turku, and we have also been active earlier in Oulu and Vaasa. Other earlier events include the Agile Conference in partnership with Agile Finland in 2013 and full-day workshops or webinars with ESI International and IIL Finland. The coming Project Management Forum will be our biggest event in recent history.
Our members have the opportunity to attend our events for free or with a discount and we also send them a regular newsletter with localized content on project management. Additionally, we provide them with support in their professional development and training to prepare for the PMI certifications, which are role-based certifications in project management. One example is the Chapter organized annual study-group for the most requested credentials: CAPM® & PMP®. Finally, being a PMI member enables members to earn the PDUs (Professional Development Units) necessary to maintain PMI certifications.
As Bernhard Korjonen, current President of PMI Finland Chapter, puts it, “project management skills are skills everybody needs in life”. That is the reason why we hope to develop the knowledge of project management and establish ourselves as a support portal in Finland. It is very important for us to help our members in their project management career. We also want to elevate the project manager profession in Finland, as we believe it is not considered as a fully recognized profession at the moment. With this in mind, we work in close cooperation with various associations and with the government. Finally, we would like to reach new members and locations in Finland!
If you want to celebrate with us the anniversary of PMI Finland Chapter or if you want to develop your leadership and project management skills, join us on September 22nd for the biggest conference in our history.
